Product Description
Plant Name: Capsicum/Bell Pepper/Sweet Pepper/Paprika
Sowing Season: During cooler periods as Capsicum is both heat and frost tender.
Sowing in Northern India: Spring season. Start seeds indoors during the winter season before transplanting them outside during the coming spring season.
Sowing in Southern India: Winter season. Preferably start seeds indoors for a better germination rate.
Amount of soil needs: Capsicum plants need between 3-5 gallons of growing medium to produce a healthy yield.
How to Sow:
- Sow capsicum in a seedling tray first, plant out the seedlings when they are (about 10-15 cm tall plants).
- Fertilize the soil using 100% organic potting soil or manure/ Fill a seedling tray with potting mix.
- Soak seeds in 3% Panchagavya solution overnight for best results.
- Plant seeds at a depth of 1/4th inch, and make sure the soil remains warm throughout the germination period.
- Sow capsicum indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting.
- Plant the seedlings in a space of about 30 cm apart.
- Capsicums are suitable for growing in containers as well.
Germination time (average): The Capsicum germination period typically lasts 14 to 18 days.
Water & Sunlight needs: Capsicums/Chillies need moist soil but not overly wet
Partial sun/shade – around 3-4 hours of morning/evening sunlight with some afternoon shade
How long for yield: Capsicum will be ready for harvest about 2 months from planting.
How much yield on an average: The annual yield from each plant is 3-4 Kg (average).
Common problems/diseases: Main pests that attack Capsicum are aphids and whiteflies. Treat them using organic pesticides like Neem oil.
